Thinning

We provide expert guidance for partial harvests and thinning. Whether it’s pre-commercial thinning, pine thinning, pine savanna management, or hardwood select cuts, we can help you every step of the way. Thinning offers many benefits: it improves wildlife habitat, boosts timber growth, enhances forest health, and can generate income.

Our foresters provide professional advice on the best treatments for your land and assist with implementing the plan. We offer timber marking services for both pre-commercial and commercial operations. Payment varies by service: commercial thinning is handled on a commission basis, marking services are charged per acre, and pre-commercial work is billed through trusted contractors with rates set on a project-by-project basis.

We are also qualified to work with the Virginia Department of Forestry and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to help you access cost-share programs, ensuring you get the most value from your thinning projects.
